FAQ: Geothermal System

Do I need a well for this system?

Today's geothermal systems do not draw water from the earth. A fluid is circulated through a closed loop that is installed in the earth's soil. This loop can be laid horizontally in ditches (two feet wide and five feet deep) or installed vertically in holes drilled approximately 150 to 300 feet deep.

Do I need a large amount of property?

Yes and no. Loops laid horizontally often require over an acre of land. Loops installed vertically require much less land but are more expensive to install.

How long does the loop in the earth last?

A long time. In general, the ground loops we install will last over 50 years.

How much does a Geothermal System save me in operating costs?

A Geothermal system will save you at least 50% over a conventional system.

How long does the equipment last?

The equipment will last twice as long as conventional equipment (about twenty years).
